Great places need gathering spots outside home and work. That's why we built Barrio alongside our village square where people naturally hang out. The name means "neighbourhood" in Spanish, reflecting the intentional community-building vision behind the location and fit-out.
We wanted to centre the restaurant around Habitat's Euro-style courtyard, creating an al fresco environment where diners become part of the community and everyday life, rather than being hidden away.
We strategically positioned the open kitchen featuring a charcoal grill and woodfire oven to draw people inside.
From 2017, the much-loved venue served an acclaimed menu of locally sourced dishes and natural wines, creating a third space for locals to meet.
From morning coffee meetings to evening barbecues with guest chefs, Barrio eliminated the need to drive into town for quality dining, allowing people to relax where they live and work.
