Motivated by the discovery that the majority of homes in Byron were short-term holiday accommodation, we secured development approval for a 106-bed boutique hotel to alleviate some of the knock-on effects a lack of long-term rentals was having on the town.
Envisioned as a true neighbourhood hotel, it represented the architectural and cultural jewel in Habitat's crown, where accommodation, elite dining, wellness, function spaces, and retail would blend seamlessly.
Dual rooftop pools, acclaimed restaurants, a modern bathhouse, conference facilities, and retail spaces, all centred around a stunning subtropical courtyard packed with native landscaping.
From the lobby bar where locals would meet for coffee to the chemical-free pools overlooking the iconic Woolumbin mountain to the west, every element was planned to integrate with the local community rather than isolate guests behind resort walls.
Market forces shifted, but the approved development showcases our capacity to navigate complex approvals and envision world-class hospitality projects grounded in local culture.
